What Is Pin2mate.com?

Pin2mate.com – Stop Screen-Recording Pinterest Like a Caveman

Okay so I was building a dark-academia mood board for a freelance client last November — 40-something video pins, very specific vibe, slow-motion candle footage, kinetic typography, the whole thing — and when I went to actually download the ones I'd been saving to my board for weeks, basically every single video had its download button disabled.

Not some of them. Almost all of them.

38 out of 40 pins. The little download arrow just gone, greyed out, like Pinterest looked directly at my deadline and decided that was the right time to remind me who actually owns the content I've spent three years curating.

So I did what everyone does. I screen-recorded them on my iPhone.

Absolute nightmare for my workflow. Seriously.

By the time I had all 40 clips sitting in my camera roll, I'd burned through almost 6GB of storage, the frame rates were visibly choppy, and when I dragged them into Premiere Pro to cut a 30-second reference montage, the audio sync was off on half of them and the edges were cropped weird because of the screen recording UI overlay. My client presentation looked like it was assembled in 2009.

That's when I built Pin2mate.com.

And I want to be upfront about something before we get into it: this isn't a tool for ripping other people's videos to repost as your own. That's not the point. Pin2mate is for getting back the files you actually saved to your own boards — your curated references, your mood board material, the stuff you need for a CapCut edit or a client deck or a Notion database you're trying to build offline.

This post is for that person. The one with 200 saved pins and zero actual files on their hard drive. The designer, the art director, the creative student who just wants the raw MP4 without Pinterest's video player UI permanently burned into the export.

If that's you, keep reading.

Why You Actually Need The Raw File

Pinterest isn't running a content library. It's running an ad platform. And the reason they've quietly made downloads harder over the years — disabling that little download arrow on videos, burying the share link behind two menus (which makes zero sense from a UX standpoint, but whatever) — is because every extra second you spend inside the Pinterest app is another ad impression they can sell.
That's the platform logic. It's not personal. Just economics.

But here's the part nobody talks about: when you only save pins to a board and never download the actual files, your entire mood board basically doesn't exist offline. Try opening your Pinterest boards on an airplane in airplane mode. Or in a client meeting where the venue's Wi-Fi is the usual disaster situation, which is every venue ever.

How to Actually Fix This

Look, the process is not complicated. Here's exactly what I do now:

Open Pinterest — app or browser, honestly doesn't matter — and find the video pin you want to download.

Tap the share arrow. On mobile it's the curved arrow icon at the bottom of the pin. On desktop it lives in the top-right corner when you open the pin full view.

Hit "Copy Link." It copies the full Pinterest URL to your clipboard. (On desktop you can also just grab it straight from the browser address bar, which is faster and skips the share menu entirely.)

Open Pin2mate.com in a new tab.

Paste the link into the input box on the homepage.

Hit download. Pin2mate pulls the video and serves you the highest-quality MP4 available — usually 1080p if the original creator uploaded at that resolution.

Save it to an actual organized project folder. Not your camera roll. A folder with a real name.

3 Variations You Should Try

Drop your MP4s directly into a Notion database. I have a client project template in Notion where every reference video gets stored in a gallery view and tagged by mood, color palette, and movement style. When I'm building out a brand kit, I can filter by tag instead of scrolling through 300 pins hoping Pinterest loads properly. Way better than native boards. Way better.

Use Pin2mate on desktop for batch downloading. Mobile works fine for one or two pins, but if you're pulling references for an entire project, desktop is significantly faster. Open the board, copy each pin link, paste into Pin2mate, download, next. You can move through 20 to 30 pins in maybe 10 minutes. Doing all of that on your phone is, uh, a different experience. (A worse one. Don't do it.)

GIF pins are weirdly underrated for client decks. A lot of the best motion reference content on Pinterest is technically formatted as GIFs, not MP4s. Pin2mate handles those too. I've started downloading key GIFs and embedding them directly into Google Slides and PowerPoint presentations — they loop automatically, they're tiny in file size, and they look far more intentional than a static screenshot of a video you were too lazy to actually pull.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Pinterest Downloader.

Pin2mate is a tool built specifically for designers, art directors, and creatives who need to download the raw video files they’ve saved to their Pinterest boards. It allows you to bypass the greyed-out download button and save high-quality MP4s or GIFs directly to your device for offline mood boards, client presentations, or Notion databases.
Screen-recording drastically reduces video quality. It locks the frame rate (often making smooth 60fps videos look choppy), captures unwanted UI elements from your phone screen, causes audio sync issues in editing software like Premiere Pro, and burns through your device's storage space extremely quickly. Pin2mate gives you the clean, original source file instead.
Pin2mate is designed for personal, offline use—such as building reference mood boards, internal client decks, or CapCut edits. It is strictly not intended for ripping other creators' content to repost as your own. Always respect the original creator's copyright and use downloaded files responsibly for personal inspiration and reference.
No! Unlike screen recording or third-party compression apps, Pin2mate pulls the highest-quality MP4 available directly from the source. If the original creator uploaded a crisp, 1080p cinematic video, that is exactly what you will get when you hit download.
It takes about 15 seconds. Open the Pinterest app, find your saved video, tap the curved share arrow at the bottom, and select "Copy Link." Then, open Pin2mate.com in your mobile browser, paste the link into the input box, and hit download.
Yes, and we actually highly recommend it for larger projects. If you are pulling dozens of references for a client pitch, using Pin2mate on desktop is significantly faster for batch downloading. Just copy the URL straight from your browser's address bar, paste it into our site, and save it directly
Yes! A lot of excellent motion design and reference content on Pinterest is formatted as GIFs rather than MP4s. Pin2mate handles GIFs perfectly, allowing you to download them so you can embed seamlessly looping animations directly into Google Slides or PowerPoint presentations.
